OUR PROGRAMS

VeloSafe

Welcome to Cycling Unbound, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cycling as an environmentally sustainable solution for healthier, longer, and better lives. Through education and advocacy, VeloSafe aims to encourage the use of bicycles as a primary or alternative mode of transportation while fostering safer driving habits and increased road safety awareness for cyclists.

In our program, VeloSafe, our passionate Board of Directors and dedicated volunteers work together to create and distribute educational materials to both non-cyclists and drivers. Our primary focus is the Washington DC – Baltimore metropolitan area, with an emphasis on Haymarket, The Plains, Marshall, and Middleburg, VA. We engage with the local community through cycling events, bike and coffee shop sessions, and maintain a strong online presence via our Cycling Unbound website and social media platforms to reach wider audiences.

Cycling Unbound is committed to developing online testing programs, quizzes, and informative content to advance cycling safety. We collaborate with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and explore potential partnerships with insurance clients for sponsorship opportunities. Our online resources aim to foster safer driving practices and raise awareness and acceptance of cyclists.

Our “See You On the Road” campaign is designed to educate drivers, non-cyclists, and the general public on best practices and foster positive attitudes towards cyclists. This includes online safety courses, Public Service Announcements, and the creation and distribution of materials outlining the responsibilities of drivers and cyclists. Our educational programming extends to children and students, promoting the use of protective equipment to prevent injuries among both pediatric and adult populations. Key areas of emphasis include head protection and helmet fit, cycling clothing for visibility, and proper bike fit and maintenance.

Join us in our mission to create a safer, greener, and healthier future through the power of cycling.

The activity will be funded through funding made available to Cycling Unbound and anticipates that 30% of its collective time and funding will be spent developing materials, organizing online webinars and workshops, as well as in-person events, exhibit booths to distribute the materials and will be ongoing in nature.

VeloHealth

Welcome to Cycling Unbound, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cycling as an environmentally sustainable solution for better, longer, and healthier lives. Our mission is to educate and advocate for regular physical exercise, with a focus on cycling, to reduce health problems and improve overall well-being.

Our program, VeloHealth, is led by a board of directors and supported by non-compensated volunteers. Together, we prepare and distribute educational materials to promote cycling as a fun and accessible form of exercise suitable for individuals of all fitness levels. Our initial focus is on the Washington DC – Baltimore metropolitan area, specifically in the Haymarket, The Plains, Marshall, and Middleburg, VA areas.

We offer local cycling events, bike and coffee shop sessions, and online presence through our website and social media to reach wider audiences. Through online testing programs, quizzes, content, and information campaigns, we educate the public on the health benefits of cycling, including protection against serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity, and arthritis. Cycling also improves balance, mobility, and heart and muscle health, making it an ideal form of exercise for all ages and fitness levels.

To support our mission, Cycling Unbound relies on funding made available to us. We anticipate that 30% of our collective time and funding will be spent developing materials, organizing online webinars and workshops, and hosting in-person events and exhibit booths to distribute our materials. Our work is ongoing and focused on promoting the benefits of cycling for a healthier and happier life.

VeloGreenAccess

Welcome to Cycling Unbound,, a non-profit organization committed to promoting cycling as an environmentally sustainable solution for healthier and longer lives. Our board of directors collaborates with non-compensated volunteers to develop and distribute educational materials that advocate for the availability of bike and e-bike shares, as well as promote cycling as an affordable form of transportation for daily use, not just leisure and recreation.

Our program VeloGreenAccess, we recognize that cycling is an excellent means of reducing the number of cars on the road, thus improving both the environment and people’s lives. Our initial focus is on the Washington DC – Baltimore metropolitan area, with a special emphasis on the Haymarket, The Plains, Marshall, and Middleburg, VA regions. We engage with local cycling events, host bike and coffee shop sessions, and maintain a robust online presence through our website and social media to reach a broader audience.

Furthermore, we understand that cycling can provide access to underserved youth and those disadvantaged by fewer mobility options due to their socioeconomic status. To address this issue, VeloGreenAccess works with neighborhood partnerships to carry out programming that promotes cycling. We collaborate with retailers, bike shops, and housing developers to promote access to bikes and e-bikes, and work with bike shares to increase access and lower costs to make bikes and e-bikes available to those who could benefit from them the most.

Join us in our efforts to make cycling a part of everyone’s daily life. Visit our website and follow us on social media to learn more about how we are working to make cycling accessible and beneficial for all.

The activity will be funded through funding made available to Cycling Unbound and anticipates that 20% of its collective time and funding will be spent developing materials, organizing online webinars and workshops, as well as in-person events, exhibit booths to distribute the materials and will be ongoing in nature.

VeloGravel

Welcome to Cycling Unbound, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cycling as an environmentally sustainable solution for better, longer, and healthier lives. Our focus is on education and advocacy to empower individuals to make a positive impact on their communities and the environment through cycling.

Our newest initiative, VeloGravel, is dedicated to preserving historic gravel roads in the Washington DC – Baltimore metropolitan area. Our board of directors works with non-compensated volunteers to develop and distribute educational materials to advocate for the preservation of these roads, promoting their historical value and heritage.

Our efforts will begin with a focus on the Haymarket, The Plains, Marshall, and Middleburg, VA areas, where we will host local cycling events and engage with bike and coffee shops to spread the word about Velo-Gravel. We will also leverage our online presence through the Cycling Unbound website and social media to reach wider audiences.

Cycling Unbound will create informative online content to showcase the value of these historic roads and promote educational journeys through the gravel roads of America. Our goal is to educate people about the local history and promote time spent on gravel bikes, fostering communion with nature and improving the health of participants.

We also aim to promote local commerce by coordinating with retailers, bike shops, coffee shops, and restaurants to offer after-event activities for our participants.

Cycling Unbound is committed to making this initiative a success and anticipates spending 20% of our collective time and funding on developing materials, organizing online webinars and workshops, as well as in-person events, exhibit booths to distribute the materials, and ongoing efforts to preserve these valuable resources
